The Wyoming Council of the Blind (WyCB) is a non-profit membership organization affiliated with the American Council of the Blind (ACB). Our purpose is to strive for the betterment of the low vision community in the state of Wyoming. This is accomplished by elevating the social, economic, and cultural level of our blind and visually impaired persons, by representing and advocating for the improvement of their educational, vocational, and rehabilitation needs, by providing a forum for their views and concerns, by encouraging and assisting, especially those new to the low vision community, them in the development of their abilities and potential to become productive citizens, and by helping them maintain their independence.
An annual membership fee of $20.00 entitles paid members to receive “The ACB Braille Forum,” a monthly publication from ACB and WyCB’s new quarterly newsletter, “Sightings.” Both publications help keep members connected and informed of what’s happening in the low vision community within our state and across the nation. Also, members can enjoy good fellowship with others who are blind or visually impaired by attending the annual convention, which is held each summer in various cities around the state.
Our popular scholarship program is also available on an annual basis to the visually impaired residents of Wyoming to help them continue their education. Refer to the Scholarship link.
The Montgomery Trust Fund for the Blind
The MTF Background
The Montgomery Trust Fund for the Blind (MTF) was established in 1949 by the will of Roy Montgomery. The bulk of his estate was left to the state of Wyoming to benefit the blind and visually impaired citizens of the state. The Trust is administered by the Department of Education through its Services for the Visually Impaired (SVI) unit headquartered in Riverton. The professional SVI consultants across the state work tirelessly to serve their clients and to meet their needs. Click here for more information.
