LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Burlsworth Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding football player in America who started their career as a walk-on. Senior safety Marcus Epps came to Wyoming as a walk-on in 2014 out of California. He redshirted his freshman season and earned the starting safety spot in 2015. Now he is one of 10 national semifinalists for the award.

In his career, he is credited with 313 tackles, which is only 21 away from landing him in the Wyoming Career Top 10.

Among all active FBS players, he is tied for eighth in career interceptions, with nine and is ranked 20th with career solo tackles, averaging just over four per game.

To add to the list of achievements, in 122 seasons of Cowboys football, Epps is the only player to be elected a team captain in three different seasons.

Finalists for the award will be announced Tuesday Nov. 13.
