Softball teams will play their first game of the season at a tournament in Gillette this weekend
Fast-pitch softball teams from Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska will be playing in Gillette this weekend. There will be social distancing rules, only 12 players can be in the dug outs, coaches have to stay on the foul lines, and parents can't sit in the stands. "Parents will be able to watch but they will have to be in the outfield, lining up the fence and they got to keep their social distancing also but at least were gonna be able to get on the field" said Cheyenne Extreme 18U Head Coach, Adam Galicia.
Coach Galicia said this will be the toughest opening tournament his team has seen in years because 'A' teams from Colorado will be there. The Colorado softball teams can not play games in their state so they will be coming to play in Wyoming a lot this summer. "We've already got about 6 or 7 games scheduled, the schedules not finalized but it looks like were gonna have quite a few home games this year, we never had that in the past, although we don't want that benefit its gonna be a benefit come out of whats going on right now" said Coach Galicia.
The Extreme tournament weekend is still scheduled to happen in Cheyenne this summer on June 20-21.
