LARAMIE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now)- Former Wyoming quarterback, Tyler Vander Waal, set to transfer to Idaho State. The sophomore entered the transfer portal before the 2019 Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl, where the Cowboys beat the Panthers of Georgia State, 38-17. He announced the transfer, via social media.
During the 2019 season, Vander Waal appeared in six games, where he threw for 512 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, and added four touchdowns on the ground.
In his career with the Pokes, he passed for a total of 1,096 yards, six touchdowns, and rushed for six touchdowns. Perhaps one of his most memorable moments at Wyoming was when he led the Pokes to four straight victories in 2018, including a comeback win against Air Force. Vander Waal stepped in for the injured Sean Chambers, and threw 14-26, 225 yards, two touchdowns rushing for 22 yards and two touchdowns, making the go-ahead TD pass to wide receiver, Austin Conway. The Pokes went onto win their final game of the season against New Mexico to become bowl eligible.
Vander Waal is expected to enroll at Idaho State University on Monday, January 13.
