LARAMIE, Wyo. (RELEASE)- Wyoming Cowgirl golfer Erin Sargent will begin play at the 2019 U.S. Women's Amateur on Monday. She is scheduled to tee off at 11:35 a.m. Mountain Time.
The event will be held Aug. 5-11 at the Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Miss. The first two days will begin with 18 holes of stroke play. Among the 156-player field, the top 64 players will advance to the match play on Wednesday.
"It's an amazing opportunity to participate in this tournament and especially to represent Wyoming is an honor," Sargent said. "I'm really looking forward to it. We play on some of the most beautiful and well-maintained courses."
Sargent qualified for the tournament after a one under par 71 to finish in a tie for first at the 2019 U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier in July at the CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. The qualifier was open to any female amateur whose Handicap Index does not exceed 5.4.
"Going in to the tournament I want to really enjoy the opportunity," Sargent added. "I want to go in with a lot of confidence, feel like I belong there and compete with some of the top golfers in the world. I think I can do that and we will see what happens."
A senior from Longmont, Colo., Sargent recently finished second at both the Wyoming and Colorado State Amateur Championships along with the runner-up spot at the Colorado match play championship earlier this summer.
