The forest service is now providing permits so you can cut your own Christmas tree. You can buy them at ranger district offices. Christmas tree permits cost ten dollars per tree and are limited to five per household. The "Every Kid in a Park" initiative is offering one free Christmas tree permit to fourth-graders who have a valid EKI pass. Every Kid in a Park was created so fourth graders and their families could discover wildlife, resources, and history.
