Yoga at Lions Park starts up for second season
For the second year in a row, Theresa Hansen, owner and operator of Little Lotus Yoga in Cheyenne, is putting together group sessions for yoga at Lions Park.
Groups meet up in the morning and perform an hour-long session full of various exercises led by Hansen on Thursday mornings from June 11 through August 23.
With some people being unable to make it into her studio, Hansen wanted to come up with some other means to get the community involved in yoga.
"I offered it last summer and got a great response, so I wanted to bring it to the community again this summer," she says. "It's a great way to get yoga into the community. I only ask for donations from folks who can't commit to a membership or folks who'd rather not come into a studio."
Hansen says she got her start teaching children as a special-ed teacher, and after years of practicing, she now has the experience and confidence to conduct these sessions in front of dozens of people.
"You know, I get a very great energy, and it fuels me. I like to give to people; I like to feel the energy of a space; I like to help people get into postures and meet their bodies where they're at," she says. "I've been doing this for several years, so I don't really get nervous anymore when teaching in front of a large group."
This year, Hansen will be partnering with Central Café to put on the events, and participants can get a discount on coffee at the venue.
Hansen also asks that interested persons bring their own yoga mats for hygiene reasons, as well as give a $5 donation if they're able.
