Wyoming Boys and Girls Club announces State Youth of the Year

Brentan Brown was named the Wyoming Youth of the Year on February 11, 2020 during a ceremony at the Wyoming State Capitol.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -- Finalist for the Wyoming Youth of the Year award were Kassey Daughtery, Mikayla Marie Maes, Riley-Jane Anderson, and Brentan Brown. Brentan Brown was named State Youth of the Year for the state and Kassey Daughtery was named the Wyoming Military Youth of the Year.

Brown said, “A lot of pretty important people in this room and a pretty important room. So a little butterflies in the stomach.” He talked about his experience moving to Wyoming and how that taught him a lot about himself and how to stop judging other people. He wants to be a lawyer.

Daughtery said, "I’ve never actually had to do that big of public speaking before so that was a little bit nervewracking. I’m so happy that it’s over with and I am so happy that I won.” Daughtery is from F.E. Warren AFB. She has a few different options for what she wants to do when she grows up, but she's currently choosing between the Air Force, a medical examiner, or an MMA fighter. She said her lean right now is to be a pararescue specialist in the U.S. Air Force.

Maes and Anderson also received scholarships at the ceremony.

First Lady Jennie Gordon gave a brief speech talking about the value of the Boys & Girls Club and making sure that kids have access to an education.
