Vehicle catches on fire in Casper; no injuries reported

CASPER, Wyo. (RELEASE) - Shortly after 9:00 PM Tuesday, Casper FireEMS was called for a vehicle fire in the 900 block of South Spruce Street. First arriving crews found a fully involved passenger vehicle parked in a driveway next to a residence.

Due to the proximity to the structure and potential involvement, additional units were called for. Initial arriving crews were able to protect the structure and limit involvement while extinguishing the vehicle fire. Firefighters then entered the structure to assure no extension had taken place inside. As a result of the quick fire attack, damage to the structure was limited to the exterior.

Damage to the vehicle is extensive and is a total loss. The cause is not yet known and fire investigators along with Casper Police are investigating. No injuries have been reported.

The most significant damage to the structure is to the electric service to the residence. The meter was damaged from exposure to the fire. Initially, it was believed the house would be uninhabitable due to the electric service damage however Rocky Mountain Power was able to replace equipment and restore power. As a result, the residents were able to return to their home. In all, 3 Engines, 1 Truck and a Battalion Chief initially responded. Crews were also assisted by Casper Police, Wyoming Medical Center, Rocky Mountain Power and Black Hills Energy. Crews remained on scene for approximately 1 hour.
