CHEYENNE, Wyo. (WYOMING NEWS NOW) -- The Cheyenne Concert Association (CCA) is celebrating 85 years of bringing high quality professional performing arts groups, to Cheyenne audiences. This is a laudable thing for any arts presenting group, but is especially notable because the CCA is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization.
This season is an exciting one, with four concerts by well-known touring artists, “Ball in the House”, “The April Verch Band”, Pianist Jason Farnham, and “Frank Vignola’s Hot Jazz Guitar Trio” scheduled between October 1, 2019 and April 30, 2020. As part of its 85th Anniversary celebration, the CCA is also providing school outreach activities for students in Cheyenne area schools featuring these four professional artists/artist groups. The CCA season is supported in part by grants from the Western States Arts Federation and Wyoming Arts Council, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the new school outreach programs are made possible by two local organizations, the Kiwanis Foundation and the Upsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Season tickets for the CCA concerts are now on sale, at $60 for Adults/Seniors, $15 for Students, and $140 for an entire Family, and include the four Cheyenne concerts at the Central High School auditorium, plus access to additional performances in nearby Nebraska and Colorado communities at no extra cost. Single tickets for the Cheyenne performances are $20 for adults/seniors, $5 for students, or $50 for an entire family. CCA prices for season and single tickets are intentionally kept low, and have not been increased for several years. In fact, student ticket prices have been reduced to encourage more students to attend CCA events. To purchase tickets, please email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call Mary at 307-214-7076.
The CCA is again showcasing local student musicians prior to each of the four evening performances in Cheyenne. Thanks to efforts by Kevin Madigan, Central’s Band Director, students from various Cheyenne schools are given performance opportunities to share their talents with CCA audiences, the chance to meet the professional touring musicians, and to attend that evening’s concert after they perform.
Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. the CCA will present “Ball in the House,” a five-voice A Capella Vocal Band that has been performing together for over twenty years. They have appeared on America’s Got Talent, the TODAY Show, and average over 150 shows to various audiences each year. They have written and performed jingles for Amazon Prime, and Cool Whip commercials, and have performed with such artists as the Beach Boys, Fantasia, The Jonah Brothers, Blondie, The Temptations, Diamond Rio, Colin Raye, Orleans and many more. Students from South High School’s music program will do a workshop with these artists during the day on October 4th, and will perform onstage with them during the October 5th concert!
Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. the CCA will present “The April Verch Band,” a trio led by Fiddler/Stepdancer/Singer April Verch plus Guitar, Bass and Banjo. April has performed professionally for over 20 years, starting step dancing at age 3 and fiddle at age 6. This high energy group performs a mix of Ottawa Valley fiddling/step dancing, old time Americana and Appalachian music. These artists will be doing a school performance in a Cheyenne area school earlier that same day.
Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. the CCA will present Jason Farnham, a Pianist/Comedian who interacts directly with audiences. He plays a huge variety of music including bossa nova, blues, stride
piano, jazz standards, original compositions and “classical with a twist.” Jason will also work with local students earlier that day.
Thursday, April 30, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. the CCA will present “Frank Vignola’s Hot Jazz Guitar Trio” which includes guitar, rhythm guitar and bass, led by famed guitarist Frank Vignola. The group plays a mostly pops/jazz program, but also includes some classical repertoire. Mr. Vignola has played with well-known musicians including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Wynton Marsalis, Les Paul, and the Boston Pops Orchestra. These artists will be doing a school performance for Cheyenne area students earlier that day.
All of these artists/artist groups are part of a Professional Artist Roster offered by Allied Concert Services (ACS) based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, and are of exceptional quality.
The Cheyenne Concert Association invites music lovers from the Greater Cheyenne Area to become members through purchasing season tickets, or by donating funding to support CCA concerts and educational outreach programs. Season ticket holders get a price savings over the cost of individual tickets for the Cheyenne performances, and can also attend performances in Craig, Ft. Morgan, Kimball, Loveland and Holyoke at no additional cost. It’s a real bargain!
