Tax season filing begins Monday
It's that time of the year again; tax filing season is here.
Beginning Monday, the Internal Revenue Service has announced they will begin accepting 2017 returns.
This year the deadline to file is April 17 which means you have two extra days to file but getting them in early is always recommended.
The reason this year’s deadline falls on the 17th, is because April 15 is a Sunday and the District of Columbia will observe Emancipation Day on April 16.
Roughly 155 million individual tax returns are expected to be filed this year.
The IRS suggests filing electronically to get quicker refunds. It’s also a good way to prevent identity theft since some criminals file fake tax returns using stolen information. So if you file quickly, it stops the possibility of having a fake return filed in your name.
