Multiple fire crews worked overnight and into Tuesday morning (12/6/16) on a massive fire at a local industrial building.

The call came in around 10:30pm to the 4100 block of West Fifth Street at CH Yarber Construction. Thirty firefighters from Cheyenne Fire and Rescue, Laramie County Fire Districts 1 and 2, and a crew from Warren Air Force Base responded.

At this time the cause is unknown.

Crews had a majority of the fire out by 1 am Tuesday morning, however hot spots and the investigation kept them on the scene until about 6 am. Temperatures in the overnight hours were in the single digits which also affected how crews were responding to the fire.

Cheyenne Fire and Rescue tells us the fire caused extensive damage to the building.

There were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire. The building was considered a total loss. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters had to deal with extreme cold temperatures with wind chills well below zero through the night. The weather, especially the wind, caused water lines to freeze, and air tanks not to work properly. Firefighters were switched out every 20 to 30 minutes to get new tanks and to get warm.

CH Yarber Construction is a commercial steel company also working with mobile welding, cranes, and rigging in the Laramie County area.
