Stand-off in Cody ends with one man dead, and a woman injured
The Cody Police Department responded to the Rodeo West gas station yesterday afternoon around 3:30 after a 44-year-old female reported that she had been shot in the head by her boyfriend during an argument in their camper.
The woman, who remains un-named was able to leave their camper, which was located in the Parkway RV Park on Cody’s West Strip. She sought help at the Rodeo West gas station, and was later transported to the Cody Regional Health Center emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 76-year-old suspect in the shooting apparently followed his girlfriend to the gas station, but returned to the camper as law enforcement arrived.
According to the Police Department, officers heard the sound of a single gunshot coming from inside the camper, after which officers and Park County Sheriff’s Deputies secured the area, and the Cody Police Tactical Response Team arrived.
Over the course of the next two hours, multiple attempts were made to make contact with the occupant of the camper, including warning shots. Eventually a specialized robot was deployed into the camper with the assistance of the Cody Bomb Team. Inside, they discovered the male suspect, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The case is still under investigation.
