Senator Enzi introduces taxpayer assistance center legislation

CHEYENNE, Wyo. United States Senator Mike Enzi is introducing legislation that would require the IRS to provide a 90-day notice to Congress if it plans to close taxpayer assistance centers.

The legislation would also require the IRS to provide a description of the assistance it intends to provide taxpayers in any rural area that would be affected by the proposed closure.

Taxpayer assistance centers offer face-to-face assistance with IRS personnel.

Wyoming has centers in Casper and Cheyenne.

The center in Cheyenne was closed in February.

Senator Enzi sent a letter requesting it to be reopened and it was reopened in March.
