Rural Fire Challenges
A brush fire in the Harriman Command stretched across at least 2 acres and forced several local Fire Departments into action. Laramie County District #10, Fire Chief, spoke on the challenges firefighters see maintaining rural blazes.
“Number one just like that hill, trying to get up there with water, is a huge challenge.”
Rural fires frequently happen during the summer months. When they occur, it takes several agencies working together to sedate the blaze.
“When you get pine needles knee-deep, and you have beetle kill that’s 20 feet high, it just takes time to put that out no matter what you do.” Laramie County firefighters districts are volunteers who ban together when duty calls.
The majority of the Firefighting agencies throughout Laramie County work together to maintain and calm the fire for a majority of Sunday night into Monday morning. The Fire Chief of Laramie County Fire District number 10 and said these are not simple fires to put out.
