Former Laramie County Community College (LCCC) women's basketball assistant coach, Danielle Rinaldo, will serve as the new interim head coach, after the departure of head coach Brian Ortmeier, who accepted the head coaching job at Iowa Central Community College.

"I'm really just excited for the whole process," Rinaldo said. "I looked at myself in this role before and I'm just really excited for the experience what I can do for the team and this program."

Rinaldo has served as assistant coach for LCCC during the past two seasons. So far in her tenure, she helped the Golden Eagles to 19-12, 18-13 records. She has also been their strength coach in the weight room.

"I'm really excited for the sophomores to come back and for the freshman to see what they can do on the floor as well," Rinaldo said.

Ortmeier was the first coach for the women's team since the program was cut in 1992. During his tenure at LCCC, Ortmeier's record as head coach was 63-58. In 2019, the Golden Eagles finished second in Region IX play and hosted a playoff game for the first time since 1992. He said he's looking forward to what LCCC women's basketball will do this upcoming season, and hopes they make it to the national tournament.

"She [Rinaldo] brings wealth and experience to the position stepping in, and I'm excited for her and I think she'll do great," Ortmeier said.

Rinaldo is expected to start her new position is on June 1, 2020.
