CHEYENNE, Wyo. (KGWN) On Nov. 4 at the City of Cheyenne’s finance committee meeting, a resolution was introduced addressing the return of the unused funds from the Mayor’s Challenge grant. Councilman Jeff White says the intent of the resolution is to get the process of returning the funds in front of the governing body and to expedite paying back the unused money.

“The resolution also has a section in to where the $23,000 that was put in the mayor’s discretionary fund will come up for debate at a later time,” said Jeff White, finance committee chairman.

Although the City of Cheyenne was awarded $100,000 thanks to a grant in 2018, more than half of that money is set to be returned. $56,571.68 is going back to Bloomberg Philanthropies after what Mayor Marian Orr says to be an accounting entry error. At her first “Kicking Rocks Tour” night, Wyoming News Now asked Mayor Orr where the money was coming from for the provided food at the town hall on Sept. 30 and for the upcoming dates.

The next city council meeting is on Tuesday, Nov. 12 and is open to the public.
