Platte River Trails hosting virtual events

CASPER Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) Wyoming wind blows through the North Platte River near the Tate Pumphouse trail center. This trail is used to seeing large groups of people gathered for a community safety ride, but this year is different.

“Starting today [May 18] is our virtual community safety ride. We’ve got a week-long period where people can ride a specific route,” said Angela Emery, the Platte Rivers Trust executive director.

Community members are asked to share photos or videos of themselves walking, biking or running on the trail or street.

Emery added this event is about raising awareness for the safety of everyone out and about.

“Motorists are not as aware of pedestrians, runners or cyclists. The weather is getting warmer and there are many more of all these types of users on the trails and the streets as well,” Emery said.

Another event going virtual this year is the spring clean up. Emery adds they are cleaning all of the trails in town.

People who want to help clean them can register for a portion of the trail on their website.
