CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - People were filling bags Saturday with toiletries and other basic necessities for Wyoming Rescue Mission Discipleship Recovery Program participants.

Donated items for "Fill the Bag" in Casper, Wyo. on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

Laura May organized the event, “Fill the Bag.” She started it because she has friends in the Discipleship Recovery Program and wanted to help.

People donated numerous items including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and more.

“It’s been kind of exciting to watch people come by and drop things off and I guess there’s even some that have donated some money to buy extra things that might be needed to fill these bags,” Wyoming Rescue Mission Women’s Services Director Jackie Pickinpaugh said.

“I’m overwhelmed with people’s generosity,” May said.

She thanked community members for their generosity and is proud of the help they provided Saturday.

“My grandfather used to tell me, ‘If you have enough for yourself, you have enough to share.’ And Casper would be the greatest example of that motto,” May said.

Individual bags will be delivered to 45 Discipleship Recovery Program participants. Excess items donated will go to other Rescue Mission guests.
