CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now)- After four seasons with Laramie County Community College (LCCC) women's basketball coach, Brian Ortmeier has accepted a position at Iowa Central Community College.

"Just being a part of LCCC and the support that they give their athletic programs, it was a really special place to coach the past four years," Ortmeier said.

Brian Ortmeier has coached the Golden Eagles for the past four seasons, going 63-58 overall. He was the women's first head coach since the program went dormant back in 1992.

"He did a really great job for us, laid a really strong foundation bringing back the women's basketball program, setting high expectations for our student athletes where they're excelling both on the court and in the classroom," LCCC Athletic Director, Cindy Henning said.

The program does not see him a just a coach who wants to win, but a coach who cares about his players off the court.

"Definitely concerned about not only you as a basketball player but you as a person so he would always take you in his office and have meetings with you and make sure that school is going good and you're not having a hard time away from home,” LCCC sophomore center, Abby Garreaud said. “He was just a great person."

Having left a family-oriented culture at LCCC, he looking to bring that family culture near to where he grew up in Northeast Nebraska.

"There is a lot of positives and I think that those are the things I’ll miss the most, just the overall culture and family atmosphere that there is here at LCCC," Ortmeier said.

Former assistant coach, Danielle Rinaldo has taken over as interim head coach, and plans to pick up where Ortmeier left off.

"I’ve definitely learned a lot from Brian and I’m excited to take what he's taught me and continue it," Rinaldo said.
