CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now)- The Van Voast family took part in the Adopt an Airman program by adopting Bryson Stride. Stride is an Airman 1st Class (A1C), Grade E3.

The Van Voasts adopted Airman 1st Class (A1C) Bryson Stride, middle, for the 'Adopt an Airman' program.

“It felt like a good opportunity to get into the community and to meet new people,” Stride said.

Stride is from Hawaii and will be with the Air Force for a year, at the end of November. Ron and La Velle Van Voast signed up for this program because of their military background.

“Since we have a lot of military family and a lot of military background, we thought it would be a fun program to be involved in,” Ron Van Voast said.

La Velle’s youngest son was in the Air Force for six years. Her oldest son, Dustin Krueger, has been active for 20+ years. He currently serves as Senior master sergeant for the Air Force. Ron Van Voast served in the Army and his oldest son served in the Navy. The Van Voast’s hope other families will participate in the program and experience the joys they’ve had so far.

“I don’t see a downside for anyone participating in our community because it’s a great program,” La Velle said.

The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce Military Committee established the program back in February. Since August, 29 airmen have been matched with 22 families.
