CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -- The food truck, 'On the Hook,' serves up fish and chips. The Wyoming-based food truck has been in business since 2016 and has since expanded to other states in the region.
The line-caught cod is what 'On the Hook' said makes its food different, but operating out of a food truck is different than a typical brick and mortar store. Samuel Preus, regional manager with 'On the Hook', said, "You have all of these moving parts just from going on the road from place to place. So there's a lot more to it than just simply cooking food."
With all of the travel also comes scheduling. Peter Preus is a scheduling manager with 'On the Hook.' His role is to contact businesses in communities and find places to park the truck. "At the beginning, it's a little bit nerve-wracking, but once you've called somebody and you've already talked to them before it gets to be a lot of fun," Peter Preus said.
"It's not the easiest thing to do, to get situated in the community when you aren't permanently there,' Peter Preus said, "But I think we're doing the best that we can."
And since the food truck operates throughout the year, that means dealing with snow, cold temps, and wind. Peter Preus said, "I think some of the craziest locations we've ever been at have been in Wyoming in the winter. It's cold and windy, but definitely builds character as they say."
Samuel Preus said that they love social media to inform people when the food truck will be in town. 'On the Hook,' Samuel Preus said, is also working with a relatively new website. It has an option for people to receive email or text updates when the truck is coming to their town. "I think the most exciting part is that you really get to go into different communities," said Samuel, "Communities where you wouldn't really think of going. You get to know the people they remember your names."
