New self-protection program comes to Casper

CASPER, Wyo, (Wyoming News Now) Guerilla Self Protection was originally created for trafficking victims in Ecuador, but founder Sean Stark was inspired to bring it to the United States.

"We use the term Guerrilla because we want to be in every community. The goal here is to spread to all the communities around the world,” Stark said.

Before any physical aspect of this workshop is taught; the instructors teach how to set boundaries.

"We put a lot of effort into encouraging people to understand as things are developing and ways to avoid them from even developing. If you can put more energy into prevention and education then you can avoid having to get physical,” Stark said.

Instructors said situations where you would use these techniques usually involve someone close to you.
"It's not the boogeyman behind every corner thing, unfortunately, it's usually somebody we know,” Stark said.

The Dojo owner, Kenneth Knight, said his favorite part about teaching is seeing his students grow.
"Increased self-confidence, self-esteem and everything. Everybody wants their children to have that come in and learn self-confidence... but the truth is the adults need it to,” Knight said.

Casper Dojo will hold semi-regular classes until there is enough interest in weekly classes.
