CHEYENNE, Wyo. (KGWN) The 5th graders at Bain Elementary School are celebrating Read Across America Week and March 7 they had a special guest reader. Mayor Marian Orr stopped by to read to the students and fielded a variety of questions ranging from her favorite part of being mayor to one curious student asking if she has a 401(k) plan.

The annual reading motivation program calls for every child in each community to celebrate reading. According to the National Education Association, research has shown that children who spend more time reading do better in school.

Mayor Orr said she always looks forward to getting out into the community and seeing what local students are learning about.

“I really enjoyed answering lots of great questions about what my role as mayor is and what city government does,” said Mayor Orr.

Read Across America Week is always over the birthday week of beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss.
