Suspect in Cheyenne shooting in custody; Case remains under investigation

UPDATE 5:00 P.M.:

Yesterday’s arrest of Andrew Weaver is not the first contact they have had with them. Neighbors say the house has had police there before. Public Information Officer for the Cheyenne Police Department, Kevin Malatesta, confirmed today officers have responded to multiple incidents at the location this year.

He wants Cheyenne to remember homicides in Cheyenne don’t happen often.

Officer Malatesta wasn’t able to share specfic numbers or details in each of the cases at the 11th Street house.

A public records request has been filled.

More information to come as it is available.

The case is still being investigated.

UPDATE 1:55 P.M.:

Police say two 14-year-old males were shot in the incident and remain hospitalized; due to their juvenile status, their names will not be released. The four victims are unrelated.

Andrew Weaver is suspected of shooting all four victims on September 16, and was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, misdemeanor theft and possession of a controlled substance. Weaver is being held at the Laramie County Jail. Narcotics are being investigated as a motivation in the crime. This case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.

UPDATE: 11 A.M.:

Police suspect illegal drugs played a role in a shooting that has killed two people and seriously injured two others in Cheyenne.

Cheyenne Police on Tuesday identified those killed as 37-year-old Adrien Butler and 30-year-old Shaline Wymer, both of Cheyenne.

Two boys, whose identities have not been released, have life-threatening injuries.

Police spokesman Kevin Malatesta says previous calls to the home where the shooting occurred lead investigators to suspect a drug connection.

UPDATE 10:09 P.M.:

The Cheyenne Police Department releases the suspect name arrested at 6:20 P.M. The suspect is identified as 25-year-old Andrew Weaver. Weaver remains in police custody. The names of the victims will not be released until families are notified. The case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.

UPDATE 8:00 P.M.:

The Cheyenne Police Department was able to confirm one adult male and one adult female are deceased and two people under 18 are seriously injured after shooting. After responding to the call, police found four people shot on scene. Suspect apprehended safely.

UPDATE 7:30 P.M:

Cheyenne Police Department could not confirm any fatalities. Earlier in the evening, Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr posted to her Facebook page:

"The Cheyenne Police Department is responding to a possible shooting in the 3400 block of E. 11th St. If you are in the area, stay indoors with your doors locked until further notice. Information will be updated when it can be verified and released.

UPDATE 6:45 P.M.:

The Cheyenne Police Department has the suspect in custody. They are still working to confirm the number of people injured and deceased."


There are two confirmed fatalities from the area and the suspect is still at-large. Please keep your doors locked and please stay away from the 3400 block of 11th Avenue. It is an active crime scene.


The Cheyenne Police Department reported to a possible shooting in the 3400 block of E. 11th St. Several people have been transported to the hospital.

Two hours after the shooting was reported, one man was taken into custody near Ashley Furniture Home Store on Nationway, not far from where the shots were fired.

Police confirmed the suspect was taken into custody around 6:58 P.M. The officers and suspect were not injured during the arrest. There is no continuing threat to the community as of 6:58 P.M.

Police are still working to confirm the number of injuries and specific injuries.
