CHEYENNE, Wyo. (KGWN) **Update** By: Sean Boyd 10:23 PM
Laramie County Fire District 2 says 22-year old Kennedy was a resident fire fighter for the past year.
District 2's Fire Chief says losing john is like losing a close member of a family.
"He was a brother, he's a family member of our organization, our family. To his peers, to his brother and sisters, he's a true brother, they're mourning the loss of john here today," Fire Chief Jason Caughey said.
With this all being so fresh and surreal, Firefighters from Loveland, Colorado come to serve their brothers and sisters in their time of need.
First Responders across Wyoming also will be pitching to provide coverage to District 2. This will allow them a chance to breathe without having to go out and serve the community right now.
"For members that are effected it continues to stay with them for a long time, our goal make sure that message and that remembrance of John stays with them in a positive note and not a negative note," Fire Chief Jason Caughey said.
Highway Patrol says cell phone use and speed on the part of Kennedy are being investigated as possible causes of the crash.
A Laramie County Fire District #2 firefighter has died as a result of a fatal crash on Nov. 7. Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers say 22-year-old John Kennedy was driving west on I-80 when he crossed the lane and collided with a commercial vehicle. Kennedy died at the scene and the driver of the other vehicle was a 48-year-old man from Canada who was not injured in the crash. Speed and cell phone use on the part of Kennedy are being investigated as possible contributing factors.
