CHEYENNE, Wyo. (KGWN) A $3.1 million bond to be paid over the course of six years was approved on Nov.5 for Laramie County Fire District #1. It is set to fund upgrades for the district’s fleet and allow the district to buy an additional set of bunker gear for each of its firefighters. It will also allow the district to make changes to help reduce the risk of cancer for its team.

There were a total of 213 ballots with 178 “yes” votes and 35 “against” votes while voting was only for residents living in LCFD #1’s response area. The chief says that sometimes when a person is having the worst day of their life and the district responds, the firefighters don’t always get that opportunity to see the people they helped again and the support they felt today was overwhelming.

“Sometimes we never get thank you’s for what we do so what this number [of yes votes] means to me is that a lot of people are very appreciative for what Fire District Number 1 does for our taxpayers,” said Darrick Mittlestadt.

Chief Middlestadt explained the department is honored and humbled by everyone who came out to vote on Nov. 5 and show their support.
