With the cold weather hopefully behind us, it’s time to get out and start enjoying the great outdoors.
And with Casper Mountain at our doorsteps, it’s easy to do in the form of hiking.
“Well, we like walking, we try and keep fit with exercise.” Said Grahame Tiplady.
Tiplady, who is visiting Casper from Australia with his partner Georgie, says that it is a good way to keep fit and see some of the beauty that Wyoming has to offer.
The Casper Mountain trail system is beautiful, but it is also dangerous.
Thats why it's always best to prepare for the worse.”
“The altitude in effect to you along with the warmer weather that we have in the summertime, both of those factors are gonna make you lose more water than probably what you think you’re gonna be taking in.” Said Casper Fire/EMS spokesperson Dane Andersen.
Andersen says that in addition to water, pack light snacks, tell someone where you’re going and when you plan to be back, and most importantly a first aid kit.
Make sure to always have a backup plan if things go wrong, and if you can, bring someone on the hike with you.
“safety is tremendously important, absolutely, I mean dreadful things happen to people.”
But with proper preparation, those "Dreadful things" shouldn't ruin your day out in the fresh mountain air!
