CHEYENNE, Wyo. (KGWN) A group of firefighters have been riding their bicycles dozens of miles a day for the past few weeks and made a stop in Wyoming. Gary Sinise, also known as Lt. Dan from Forrest Gump, has the Gary Sinise Foundation to raise money for injured veterans. The 1,600 mile fundraising ride raises money through the R.I.S.E program.

One rider says his favorite spot in the Cowboy State during the ride was through Medicine Bow.

“You see the road going over and it just continues on and on and you get that moment of ‘I’m on this road and it’s going nowhere and you feel like I need to stop right here just like Forrest Gump,’” said Tom Sowards, veteran and firefighter. “What we’re doing is giving back, every single one of us that’s doing this is passionate about giving back in some fashion.”

The firefighters are ending this ride in Colorado and are already looking forward to the ride in 2021 across the country to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11. To learn more or donate, head to
