Extreme finish their tournament weekend 5-1
The Cheyenne Extreme 18U lost in the championship of the Extreme Tournament Weekend against the Flames of Nebraska Red Hots 7-6, on a walk-off. Cheyenne finished the tournament with a 5-1 record.
Cheyenne came into day 2 of the tournament as the top seed. They showed why they deserved the top seed in the first game of day two against the Wildcats, beating them 13-2. Cheyenne was up 3-2 heading into the top of the sixth inning. The Extreme exploded for 10 runs in the inning, including a home run by Brogan Allen. The Extreme picked up where they left off in the semi-finals where they scored nine runs in the first inning, leading to a 12-5 victory over the Colorado Impact Gold.
The championship was against the Flames of Nebraska Red Hots. It was tied 3-3 at the top of the sixth inning where Ariana Galicia was on at bat on a 3-2 count, where she hit a home run, bringing in three runs to take the lead, 6-3.
"For her [Ariana Galicia] to get a homer like that in a game like this at a full count at the time it was big," Head coach of the Extreme 18U and father of Ariana Galicia, Adam Galicia said on her HR as a Father's Day Gift. "I'm very proud of her.
However, the Flames answered back in the bottom of the sixth, bringing in four runs to beat the Extreme, 7-6.
"We're not going to lose again in a championship," Ariana Galicia said.
The Cheyenne Extreme return to action on Tuesday, June 23, where they will take on the Gering Logoz.
