CHEYENNE, Wyo. (WYOMING NEWS NOW) -- Cheyenne Fire Rescue Prevention Chief Byron Mathews stops by Wyoming News Now to chat about holiday fire safety.
When it comes to deep frying your Thanksgiving turkey, it's important to remember to monitor the oil, de-thaw the turkey, and make sure the turkey is dry. The other key is to not cook it on the garage or deck. Ideally, you would move the deep-frying out on the concrete with space, away from the house.
In the kitchen, pay attention the stove. Make sure the pot handles are turned in toward the stove, and not hanging out over the edge.
While hanging up lights, you want to make sure they're in good working condition, and that there are no frayed cords. You want to use a properly sized extensions cord. Also, make sure that when hanging decorations to keep them away from the fireplace. Also, safety teams would like to remind you to keep your address numbers and porch light visible during the holidays to keep everyone safe.
In the spirit of the holidays, there's also a chance to help out the neighbors. You could shovel their walkway, remove ice and make sure everyone's okay.
