Cheyenne Police recommend charges in clergy sexual abuse case

By  |

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) UPDATED (2:09 PM MST) | The Cheyenne Police Department updated information in the release. The corrected information from the department is below.

We need to clarify that the individuals for whom we are recommending charges are one member of the Catholic Clergy and another person who was seeking membership in the Catholic Clergy at the time of the offenses.

Original Story | Investigators are recommending charges against two former Catholic Clergy members in Cheyenne.

The Cheyenne Police Department filed affidavits of probable cause with the Laramie County District Attorney’s office

According to police, the two clergy members sexually abused male juveniles in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Wyoming law prohibits law enforcement from releasing the two names in order to protect the identity of the victims.

Former Bishop Joseph Hart was publicly named by the Wyoming Catholic Register in June as a suspect in sexual abuse allegations, along with nine others. Hart continues to deny the allegations.

This is a developing story.
