CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -- The Cheyenne Police Department said that the seizure of backpage.com by the federal government is one of the main reasons for declining arrests. The PD said it used to use the website, a leading page for prostitution ads, in order to set up stings and make arrests. According to its 2018 report, the Cheyenne PD saw human trafficking arrests decline by 52 percent between 2017 and 2018.

The Cheyenne PD also said fewer victims of trafficking are being arrested. Officer David Inman, Cheyenne PD public information officer, said this doesn't mean human trafficking is no longer a problem. "They're going to come up with ways to do it again. Like I said it's a major issue nationwide and worldwide. It won't go away. And we'll just be as proactive as we are now, Officer Inman said.
