How Cheyenne Continues to Work to Make Our Roads More Safe

Cheyenne, Wyo. (KGWN) - As Cheyenne grows, many see that as a plus; however, as that growth occurs, some are concerned about the safety of our roads. This is because with growth, there are more people, more cars, and more traffic.

Over the past few weeks, it has been highlighted that there are some conflict points regarding traffic along the Whitney Dell Range, Whitney Highway 30, and Whitney Pershing corridors.

Rocky Case, of Cheyenne City Council, says, "There have been multiple accidents this year and several last year. More recently though, there have been a couple fatalities at these intersections."

WYDOT came up with some temporary solutions like adding bright flashing lights on top of stop signs, but more is being done. The Cheyenne Metropolitan Planning Organization, which coordinates between the City, the County, and the State, is working on a long-term plan.

Case explains, "They’ve done traffic counts and have studies on all of these intersections. I suspect sometime early next year, we’ll have preliminary plans."
