Casper's Industrial Screen and Maintenance celebrates 50 years

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) You don't always hear locally owned or family owned when it comes to businesses. Industrial Screen and Maintenance can say both and is celebrating 50 years in 2019.

Robert Miner founded ISM in 1969 as a shop that made screens for the uranium industry.

Today, ISM specialize's in anything from screen design and fabrication to milling and turning.

ISM's facility in Casper has grown to multiple buildings and there is also a second facility in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Something that has stayed the same: keeping the business in the family.

"This has been operated as a family business all these years and we're going to continue to operate it that way." Dan Miner, consultant and former CEO of ISM, said.

Dan took over the company in 2000 after his father retired. Although it took some time to get going, advances in technology helped ISM get their name out there.

"Once we incorporated all the automation and computerization, things changed drastically. So that was a big gain for us." Miner said.

Dan passed the torch to his daughter Lindsey Robinson last year. Robinson grew up around the company and watched her grandpa and father work to keep ISM together.

"Growing up I always saw the struggles that they went through keeping the business alive. It's not an easy industry to survive in. The many ups and downs make it a challenge, you have to be diverse and continually change." Lindsey Robinson, CEO and President of ISM, said.

Robinson knows being a female owned company in a male dominated industry can be challenging.

"It's unique, I'll say that. Thankfully I have the support of my husband and the consulting of my father who spent decades in this industry. We very much work as a team between my father, husband and our great employees. There's nothing that we can't accomplish." Robinson said.

ISM believes if you take care of your employees, they will take care of the customer.

"You're not a number, you're an actual person. You're part of a family and that's why we love it here." Travis O'Brien, shop manager at ISM, said.

ISM is in its third generation and hopes to continue keeping the business in the family.
