CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Casper Events Center officials said the crowd would be too big if they opened the building’s parking lots for the annual July 4 fireworks show.
Events Center General Manager Brad Murphy said it comes down to capacity when asked why the building is opening its parking lot for Saturday’s Garth Brooks drive-in concert.
He said it’s easier to keep cars spread far apart and enforce social distancing measures for the drive-in concert, which will draw fewer than 500 cars.
The fireworks show annually draws up to 2,000 cars.
“We don’t want to put that many people into a large group gathering given our current restrictions and we want to follow the CDC guidelines as closely as possible,” Murphy said.
People can still view the fireworks show from various locations throughout the city but there won’t be a designated space for them to gather that night.
