Superintendent Jillian Balow was chosen unanimously as president-elect of the Council of Chief State School Officer’s Board of Directors. She says her platform for the year is called “Beyond the Bell,” which encompasses activities that enhance education happening before, after, and outside of school.

“To really just underscore the importance that education doesn’t just happen in school,” said Jillian Balow, State Superintendent of Public Education. “That there are so many great opportunities to improve student outcomes and student success outside of school that are incumbent, not just on schools but on the community at large.”

Balow is the first-ever Wyoming state superintendent to hold the position. As President, she will frequently be asked to speak with federal policy makers about education issues.
