Abuse happens everywhere, and one woman is sharing her own story of being kidnapped and abused by a rebel group in Africa.
Cheyenne Hills Church brought Victoria Nyanjura to Cheyenne to speak with residents.
In 1996, The Lord's Resistance Army raided 14-year-old Nyanjura's school in Aboke, waking her up from a deep sleep, and kidnapping her and 138 other girls. Though 109 were released, Nyanjura was not.
This began eight long years of captivity.
Nyanjura says, "We had to walk long distances, young girls were forced to be with men as wives, and the boys were trained to become soldiers to fight." She refused to give up on hope and escaped in 2004.
Now, Nyanjura encourages victims of abuse to seek help and not stay quiet about suffering.
If you are being abused, you are urged to call Cheyenne's forensic nurses at 307-633-7610. They can help form a recovery plan.
