The Military Affairs Committee of The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce started the adopt an Airman program with the purpose of providing and encouraging Airman resiliency. The program is opened to first term Airmen who are stationed on F.E. Air Force Base. For those that are far away from home and on their own for their first time. This program promotes a "home-away-from-home" environment.

Community members are able to extend a hand out to the Airmen by inviting them to a dinner or even family activities. The goal is to have the military and the Cheyenne community join as one in helping those that are making the adjustment in their professional and personal lives away from their families.

For participants, sponsors: community members who are not currently active duty or Full-time Guard/Reserve are eligible to sign up. The time commitment meeting with the Airman at least once a month; not just a holiday meal relationship. In addition, the official relationship timed to length of stay for Airmen in dorms which is approximately 18-24 months. However, unofficially could last a life time!

The process is based on Sponsor & Airmen Questionnaires and Sponsor Background checks. The committee will match host families with Airmen sharing the same basic characteristics (hobbies/interests, music etc.) There will also be a sponsor orientation and they will receive a matching notification with a 30-day follow-up.
