We are definitely seeing a cool down as we head into the weekend after a week of record breaking temperatures. The southern and southeastern portions of the state saw scattered showers earlier this afternoon, which produced a couple rumbles of thunder. Lows tonight will be pretty mild, ranging from the 40s to the 60s. Tomorrow's high will feel nice compared to last week in the 70s to 80s in the southern half of the state. Tomorrow is also Father's Day! Keep an eye on the sky in the later hours of Sunday. There is a possible chance of some severe storms rolling into the southern part of the state, following behind a cold front.

A cold front that pushed through Wyoming Thursday evening has brought cooler and calmer conditions to the state for Friday afternoon, and Wyomingites should capitalize while the pleasant conditions are here. Another heat wave will begin on Saturday, and the next one is expected to be hotter than this last one. UV indices around the state are going to be extremely high this weekend, so direct sunlight exposure should be limited and lots of sunscreen applied.

Strong winds from the southwest combined with increasing drought and unprecedented early summer heat have lead to an increase in the wildfire threat for much of the state. At the same time the arrival of a cold front this evening will bring a chance for severe weather in parts of Wyoming and Nebraska.

Conditions across Wyoming are expected to be the calmest we see all week today as high pressure builds in over the region, severely limiting rain potential and offering a break from the powerful wind activity seen Tuesday. Strong winds are expected across the board on Thursday bringing back a fire weather threat, and severe storms are possible in Eastern Wyoming Thursday afternoon ahead of a mild cold front set to offer a bit of heat relief on Friday.

Instability remains over the Eastern Counties in Wyoming prompting another severe weather threat for Tuesday afternoon, with the highest level being a Level 2 slight risk that encompasses the eastern portions of all the counties that border Nebraska and South Dakota. The Panhandle of Nebraska is also in this risk zone. Strong, dry winds from the southwest along with temperatures in the upper 80s to the mid 90s this afternoon are fueling a fire weather threat in Central, Southern, and parts of Northern Wyoming for this afternoon as well.

Summer heat is reaching its peak for this week today with the 90s continuing for most of Wyoming through the weekend. Saturday is Free Fishing Day for most of the state and will offer a way to beat the heat, however some isolated storms in the afternoon could present a hazard to anglers who remain near the water during the late afternoon or evening hours thanks to hail and the dangers of lightning and water. Strong breezes in parts of the state on Sunday could lead to an elevated risk for wildfires, especially in the drought stricken regions.

Some isolated storms are expected in Southeast Wyoming this afternoon, though nothing crazy seems likely with a limited severe threat in place and storms arriving earlier than typical for this time of year. Hot temperatures and sunshine will finish the week as a major heat wave rolls in.

A few rain chances remain from this weekend's pattern as the new week begins, but they are all expected to fizzle out by Wednesday. Summer heat will move in for quite a few locations ahead of the first weekend of June as a powerful high pressure system builds in over the western US.

Today brings some of the nicest weather we will see this week, but strong winds and severe weather chances return for Wednesday afternoon along with a plethora of cloud cover. The severe weather pattern is out, and some more pleasant conditions are expected for the final week of May. Wind will come and go throughout this week with Central Wyoming taking the brunt of it, and rain chances look to peak Wednesday before stormy activity looks to return Memorial Day Weekend.

The severe weather saga will continue into the weekend, with the lowest risk levels expected today thanks to an abundance of cloud cover and much cooler conditions for most of the state following yesterday's cold front. As temperatures slightly climb Saturday and Sunday, the severe risks will climb a bit with them. Powerful winds are expected to return on Sunday across the state.

There is a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorm activity in Eastern Wyoming this afternoon as temperatures reach their peak for the week, allowing for maximum energy and instability for storm development. That risk will drop on Friday as temperatures cool following the passing of a mild cold front, however rain activity is expected to go up into the first half of the weekend before wind takes over on Sunday.

As temperatures rise and the jet stream begins to dip on Thursday, the risk for severe weather is on the rise. Abundant surface heating will create large amounts of instability in Eastern Wyoming and the Panhandle of Nebraska, prompting the SPC to issue a Slight (Level 2) risk for severe weather. The primary threats are hail and strong winds, however an isolated tornado is not out of the realm of possibility.

A weak ridge is building into the jet stream for the middle of the week, warming temperatures and keeping storm activity at bay. Come Thursday this will begin to break down as another trough rolls through, raising storm threats as we head into the weekend. With warmer conditions heading into this weekend, especially Thursday, severe weather threats will be higher rolling into the weekend this time around. A larger dip in the jet stream will also bring more dynamics that further the risk of severe weather, which will raise the tornado threat.

Multiple days of PM thunderstorms are expected to begin today with the possibility of severe weather in some areas as we roll into the weekend. The risk for today in parts of Wyoming tops out at a Level 1 "Marginal" risk with strong wind gusts and small hail expected with storms that pass through. A similar risk will be in play tomorrow as well however slightly cooler temperatures will likely reduce the risk zone.

A pattern shift is bringing warmer weather to Wyoming as high pressure builds in a bit to the region thanks to a slight ridging pattern. While cloud cover will continue to be prevalent around the state, rain chances overall remain low until Friday, with Thursday being the "driest" day. A dip in the jet stream on Friday will bring widespread thunderstorm activity to the state that will carry through the weekend and early next week.

The winter weather system is breaking down, with its effects expected to hang around through the rest of today. Warmer conditions will return to the state tomorrow, with Cheyenne and Laramie expected to lag behind by 10+ degrees from most locations thanks to the system hanging overhead today. Temperatures are expected to peak on Thursday with a very steady trend of upper 60s and lower 70s expected late this week, through the weekend, and into next week. Scattered PM storms are expected to begin on Friday with the possibility of occurring every day through the weekend and into next week as well with the new pattern.

Snow has returned to the southeastern corner of Wyoming thanks to a new system in Colorado. It is expected to hang around the region through Tuesday, with the bulk of precipitation activity expected today. Tomorrow afternoon precipitation will continue, although it will be more scattered in nature and for the most part it will be rain (except Laramie). The system will clear out heading into Wednesday, allowing temperatures to climb the rest of the week.

The final day of the week is quite pleasant as temperatures reach their peak, however that is simply thanks to a warm front ahead of the next system arriving over Mother's Day weekend. The cold front will push through Wyoming on Saturday, primarily bringing rain to the northern half of the state as temperatures drop thanks to a shift in wind direction from the south and west to the north. This region will be spared much activity on Mother's Day itself as a new low forms on Sunday, targeting the southeastern part of the state. Monday will bring the most precipitation to the state, with the wet spot set to be the southeastern corner of Wyoming once again.

The sunshine has made a grand return for the state of Wyoming today, but it will be short lived as the ridge in the jet stream gives way to a trough beginning late Friday. This will lead to the next storm system moving through the state over the weekend, dropping temperatures from the 70s/80s on Friday to the 30s/40s on Monday for highs. Outdoor plans for Mother's Day should be scheduled in the morning to avoid complications with rain.

The warmest day of April still awaits for the final day of the month thanks to a prominent ridge and high pressure bringing pleasant conditions to Wyoming. April will end on a warm note as a ridging pattern takes over the western US for the next few days, allowing high pressure and benign conditions to take over in the state. Clouds will hang over the I-80 corridor throughout the day today with an opportunity for snow showers late thanks to a weak system over Colorado. We kick off the third full week of April with the coldest conditions we have seen in awhile; afternoon temperatures in the mid 20s and lows tonight in the lower teens and some in the single digits. The rest of the week will see widespread snow that will bring most of its accumulation Thursday Night into Friday. The rollercoaster pattern of temperatures we have been seeing this week looks to come to an end this weekend as cooler conditions take hold heading into next week, but that also means an end to the windy pattern as well. The first weekend of April was filled with above average temperatures and a good bit of sunshine, but a cold front moving through Tuesday night will be a reminder to Wyomingites that April is one of the snowiest months for the state.
