Cheyenne broke a low temperature record this morning of 26F with 29F as the previous record set in 1930. Wyoming came out of the freeze warning in the morning hours and we do not expect any reissuance this evening. What will happen is increasing showers of rain and snow throughout the state overnight and into Monday morning. An upper level trough is producing much of this weather where east of the feature is mainly rain while west of the feature is colder and more snow-like as it tracks across the state. South central Wyoming will receive the most snowfall and the southeast is primed more for thunderstorms. The Cheyenne region could see the rare occurrence of thundersnow around 6am as storms continue east to until noon. By then another cumulus field will pop up setting off another round of rain showers and isolated thunderstorms in eastern Wyoming.

After the cold snow spell Thursday into Friday morning, we saw near record low temperatures across Wyoming Saturday morning. Cheyenne was 24F with the record of 23F set in 1882. Casper was 29F with a record of 26F in 2001. As for snowfall totals, I can’t wow you where the most significant snowfall occurred due to a lack of reporting in the remote areas of Snowy Range and Sierra Madre but it was forecasted at the 6-12″ range. Closer to Cheyenne we saw 2″ in the last 24 hours bringing up our total for the month to 2.7″. The cold temperatures will stick around for one more morning. Long enough to issue a freeze warning for many eastern counties from 9pm Saturday to 8am Sunday. Low 30s and 20s are forecasted around Wyoming.

A picture perfect Sunday of weather is topped off with a total lunar eclipse. What more could you ask for? It helps tremendously that Wyoming will have minimal cloud coverage tonight during the lunar eclipse. A fifty percent eclipse will be from 8:59pm to 11:23pm with the peak being at 10:11pm to sight the most red version of the moon Sunday evening. Lows tonight will be in the mid 40s in the Cheyenne region and 40s throughout most of Wyoming.

Rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecasted in north Wyoming Saturday night into Sunday morning but will cease before sunrise. Wyoming saw a breezy day today with Rawlins topping the wind chart at 43mph and Rock Springs in a close second at 39mph. This is the last of winds that fast for the next couple days as high pressure will build over the western United States. With that building of high pressure, Wyoming will have slowly warming temperatures Sunday and Monday. Low temperatures are in the mid 40s to upper 30s. Tomorrow high temperatures will be from the mid 70s to mid 60s.

A breezy Mother’s Day dominated Wyoming before rain showers and isolated thunderstorms started in the late afternoon making their way across Wyoming and into the Nebraska panhandle. Numerous strikes were confirmed and will continue into the night hours. Western Nebraska has an elevated threat of storms possibly bringing small hail along with it. The threat of thunderstorms will decrease after midnight at the atmosphere stabilizes. Central Wyoming will have showers last long enough to turn into a rain/snow mix closer to the times of minimum temperatures Monday morning. Close to 1/2 an inch of rainfall is possible in the central region. Monday the storms will migrate north in the morning hours with the help of strong winds. The showers and isolated storms will impact the Sheridan and Gillette region into the afternoon clearing out everything south of northern Wyoming.

Sunshine and warm temperatures were ahead of the cold front that made its way across Wyoming Saturday. It brought with it light rain across the state. Thunderstorms were abundant in western South Dakota and western Nebraska. Those fortunately did not back-build nor did the rain showers grow in instability to produce lightning over Wyoming. Rain showers will linger in eastern Wyoming into the Sunday morning mostly ceasing by sunrise. This will provide a brief break for the day Sunday before we have additional rain showers and possible thunderstorms late afternoon Sunday into Monday morning.

Wyoming is set to receive several weather types into Sunday evening and Monday morning. Sunday afternoon was filled with isolated rain showers and a few thunderstorms. As the swath of moisture over the top of cold front passing to our south moves closer to Cheyenne, it will plant itself there from midnight to around noon Monday bringing rain, then snow as temperatures approach freezing. Snow totals are 1 to 2 inches from Cheyenne to Scottsbluff while other locations will have less than 1 inch or trace amounts of snow outside the southeast section of Wyoming.

Winds took the weather spotlight Friday and Saturday, especially in southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle. The Cheyenne airport and Sidney saw 49 mph Saturday. Wyoming will have clouds build overnight Saturday from the west ahead of the next cold front that will pass to our south over Utah and Colorado Sunday evening into Monday morning. The good news about this cold front is the change of pace it brings and the precipitation along with it. While the low pressure system will track under Wyoming, there is an abundant amount of moisture that will carry over the top. This should impact southeast Wyoming as the region has fallen behind its monthly and annual averages in March and April. Some models predict .50″ to .70″ inches of rain. Before that total amount by Monday morning, isolated thunderstorms are possible in the southeast along with rain showers Sunday afternoon and evening. As temperatures cool into Monday morning, the precipitation will turn mixed and into snow showers as it approaches freezing and the high temperature Monday is forecasted to be around 40F. Snow accumulation for the southeast is forecasted to over 1 inch so watch the road conditions to start your work week.

The wrap around moisture brought blizzards to the northeast part of the state from the last cold front. Luckily, Montana and the western Dakotas took the brunt of harsh winter weather with power outages reported in the thousands in the Dakotas without power. With that out of the picture, Wyoming can soak in some Spring rays over the next few days. Gillette saw 11.5 inches of snow in the heart of the blizzard warning while Cheyenne was passed over once again in the rain and snow category as the city falls further behind in monthly and annual precipitation averages. Like the deserts miss the rain, so do Wyomingites in Cheyenne. Moving forward, Wyoming will start off with a mild Monday to include light winds, plenty of sunshine, and high temperatures in the mid-40s to mid 50s. Overnight Sunday, clouds will scatter and low temperatures will drop from the upper teens to high 20s.

The backside of the closed-low system to our east has a lot of moisture behind it bringing snow showers over Wyoming with blizzard conditions in the northeast sector until Saturday night. Winter weather advisories, winter storm warnings over south central and high wind warnings in the southeast will expire by midnight tonight. Strong winds have been felt across the state Saturday with Buffalo topping the bunch at 63 mph. Snow totals have yet to calculated but the northeast will have the highest totals dealing with blizzard conditions Saturday. The snow and winds will move east northeast into Saturday evening leaving Wyoming with gusts in the mid 40s along the eastern state border Sunday morning into the afternoon. By Sunday evening all weather will have passed and we will start a sharp warming trend to start our week.

High wind gusts spread across Southeast Wyoming Sunday. The Cheyenne airport topped the wind gusts at 57mph. Both Rawlins and the Laramie airport tied for second at 51mph. These winds will taper off into Sunday night setting up a great weather day for Wyoming Monday. A light breeze around 20mph is the highest forecasted anywhere in the state. Additionally, clouds will clear overnight for mostly sunny skies for Monday warming to the mid 50s and low 60s throughout the state. Low temperatures Monday morning will range from the low to high 20s.

Ready for some strong winds to conclude your weekend? Ready or not, you’re getting them. But first a Saturday evening of rain showers will become snow showers after midnight for much of Wyoming. What snowfall occurs will be minimal with exception for the mountainous terrain and Laramie forecasted to have 1 inch. Tomorrow, winds will pick-up early morning from the west delivering wind warning level wind speeds with the concentration over the Cheyenne region and western Nebraska up to 60mph.

A windy Sunday dominated much of the southern border cities of Wyoming causing delays along I-80 and I-25 west and east of Cheyenne, respectively. A 58mph gust at the Cheyenne airport will do that. Wind speeds will decrease into the evening and remain breezy until midnight. Temperatures took a plunge today compared to yesterday well below Aprils monthly average. Isolated rain and snow showers across the state are diminishing Sunday into the afternoon and evening to give us some clearing for a short while. Low temperatures will be in the 20s throughout Wyoming Monday morning.

As early as Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning rain showers transition to snow showers with a temperature drop of 40F from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning in the Cheyenne region.

Wyoming cooled down slightly after the dry cold front Saturday night. It won’t be long until the next cold front arrives Monday evening into Tuesday morning. Lows will be at and near freezing around the state Monday morning.

A dry cold front is moving over Wyoming Saturday night. There may be some rain/snow along the northern border but most of that will stay in Montana. As a result, wind gusts will increase in the northern half of the state reaching the mid 30s and even 50 mph in the Gillette region. Additionally, high temperatures will cool slightly across the state Sunday in the 50s. Monday we’ll bounce back to the 60s. Lows temperatures tonight will be near freezing. Besides breezy winds, a pleasant weekend remains and will carry into Monday.

Record warmth verified across Wyoming in at least half a dozen cities Sunday. A repeat Monday is not out of the question. Get some fresh air Monday before the next weather system that will cool us down to high temperatures in the 40s and 50s for the remaining days of the week. Lows will sink to below freezing in the 20s throughout the state.

Spring is coming at us fast with near record high temperatures for the weekend into Monday. Clouds will be in abundance thankfully to block this seasonably warm sunshine. Plan something outdoors, wear sunscreen and light clothing while winds take a break from making things difficult. There may be a couple rain showers over the Laramie Mountains Sunday afternoon but not much else besides that. Low temperatures Saturday night will be in the high 20s and mostly 30s around the state. High temperatures Sunday will be in the high 60s and 70s for most of Wyoming.

Wyoming is on the receiving end of several weather criteria with this passing cold front. It had rain, snow and even a thunderstorm or two. For the most part, rain fell with the warm daytime temperatures today. Into Sunday evening this will transition to snow. By Monday morning the snow and most winds winds will have passed leaving a pool of cold air over the state Monday and Tuesday with some afternoon snow showers returning Tuesday.

Wyoming is getting into the 50s and 60s as Spring starts Sunday. The state will get a mild cold front to start the season off with some rain, snow and breezy winds Sunday with a chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the central and western mountainous parts of the state. The front will pass by Monday morning leaving us chilly for a couple days. While winter’s in Wyoming seem to last longer, this cold front passing with its milder temperatures and thunderstorm potential are an indicator for the turning of the season.

Temperatures warmed up across Wyoming today as we head into the weekend with the 50s and 60s. This will continue into Sunday late afternoon and evening when the next cold front makes its way toward us. Low temperatures are closer to freezing Friday night as a result from the warm-up this afternoon. It feels like Spring as the official start is this Sunday.

Light snow showers are leaving Wyoming behind the last frontal system as it pushes east. We had 1-2 inches of snow reported in Cheyenne and Casper. The sky opened up and it was warm enough to let some sun in and start to melt the freshly fallen snow. High temperatures were above freezing today. Wyoming will warm up quickly tomorrow bringing those spring-like temperatures of the 40s and 50s back for the end of the week and into the weekend. Low temperatures will be closer to freezing instead of the low 20s or colder this evening.

We wrap up a mostly favorable weather weekend across Wyoming. The few isolated snow and rain showers will diminish and push east into Sunday evening and mostly clear by Monday morning. Lows Monday morning will be at or below freezing with 20s and upper teens out west. Parts of Wyoming will feel a small drop in high temperatures in the 30s, 40s, and 50s behind this brief weaker weather event but warm up quickly after.

Wyoming reached the 40s and 50s that we wanted to see after a cold week of snow and ice. Look for this warming trend to continue for the next several days getting closer to the 50s as the first day of spring is nearing. There is a slight chance of isolated rain and snow showers late Sunday but won’t be more than an isolated sprinkle of rain or snow dusting as it passes depending on the time and temperature.

Snow flurries will cease in the Sunday evening hours and clouds will clear by Monday morning. A weekend of snow they said. It will be cold they said. It is snowy and cold but the snowfall has not been as heavy as originally forecasted and the worst is over. There is another period of snow showers before we get a break Monday. Cheyenne and the east half of the state is forecasted an inch to two more of snowfall until then with exception to mountainous terrain and the western border that will incur several inches of snow.

Low temperatures will not vary much with no expectation of significant winter weather upcoming.
