CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Torrington Trailblazers are your 2023 2A Football State champs, beating Big Horn 28-26. Big Horn was a one seed in the tournament, Torrington was a two seed.
This is their fifth championship in the school’s history and the first since 1990.
Kaiden Riggs did it all for the Trailblazers, as if 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns was not enough. Riggs threw for 80 yards and a touchdown as well.
Torrington Quarterback, Bryce Hager has been a beast all season and that did not slow down on the big stage. Hager threw for 176 yards and a touchdown. As usual he was a threat on the ground as well with 76 yards rushing and a touchdown.
On the defensive side, Greysen Shields and Ty Bennick has six tackles a piece.
“It means a lot,” Kaiden Riggs said as a teammate handed him the state championship plaque. “When we first went 0-2 in the non-conference I felt like there were a lot of parents that had no faith in us. But, we were in practice and we were just driving to get better. Everyday we got better. Every game we looked at film and looked at what we did wrong and what we did good at. We just got better from what we did wrong and what we did right.”
