Prep Athlete of the Week: Maddy Stucky, Laramie
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Simply put, Maddy Stucky has been a game changer for Laramie over the last four years-- and her final state volleyball tournament was no different.
Not only did she help power the team to their third championship in her high school career, but she hit another massive achievement in the title match: surpassing 3,000 assists as a Lady Plainsmen.
”It was actually super super awesome. I mean I had gotten 2,000 the year before, so it was like one of those things where it was just a super cool milestone that I got to have. And I got to do it with this amazing group of people,” Stucky said.
In addition to the eye popping assist totals from the setter, Stucky has proven time and time again that she is effective in every aspect of the game. The reigning Gatorade Player of the Year also led the Lady Plainsmen this season in hit percentage (47%), was second in total blocks (52), serving aces (40), and digs (165), and fourth in kills (137). Her performance this year earned her a fourth straight All-State selection-- just another accolade to one of the most prolific volleyball careers in the state of Wyoming.
She capped it all off with a tournament performance featuring 129 assists, 46 digs, 17 kills, and 11 blocks across 14 sets played.
When looking back on her time at Laramie, Stucky is grateful for the uniquely special experience and knows she gave the program everything she had.
”Well a lot of it for me was I didn’t want any regrets. Which we did leave it all out there. Like I had so much fun being able to play with not only my sister, but play under my mother as well and you know these great athletes. Our whole Laramie Volleyball [program] is just a community. Like all of us are just one big family, and we all just love each other dearly. So it’s been really an awesome experience,” Stucky said.
The senior will sign her National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to play volleyball for the University of Wyoming.
