Casper College basketball hosts first Halloween event
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - They say there’s a first time for everything. On Monday... For the first time... Casper College hosted a community event that was centered around both Halloween... And basketball.
Monday night in the Thunderbird Gymnasium, the Casper College men’s and women’s basketball teams held an event called the Haunted House of Hoops. It was a free event, open to the community. Before things got underway, I spoke with sophomore Logan Alvar to get her thoughts on the concept. “I’m really, really looking forward to tonight! I just can’t wait to see all the kids. I think it’s a really great opportunity for them to come out, get to meet us. Maybe make some more personal connections, which I think will make the games a little bit more fun.”
Residents and fans showed up by the hundreds, with many children dressed up in Halloween costumes. The evening had a mixture of contests for the kids... Such as musical chairs, and a relay race in which they had to wear a team uniform, and size 18 shoes, while dribbling down the court.
And the evening also had contests for the players themselves; such as a 3-point competition for both teams... And a dunking competition for the men.
When the evening was over, I spoke with sophomore Darius Robinson. He echoed Alvar’s thoughts, and felt like their goal was accomplished. “Yeah I think it definitely accomplished it’s purpose. Just doing the autographs, I feel like... A lot of people who come to the autograph line... Saying they was going to come to the game. So I feel like it was a great turnout. And the line was... Around the whole outside. So I feel like it’s going to be good.”
Once the fun and games were over, both teams had to focus on the upcoming season, which started this week.
