CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Job growth has been on a steady rise across the country and here in Wyoming. Last quarter total employment in the state rose by 2.5 percent.

David Bullard is a senior economist with the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Research and Planning Division. He says, “We’re seeing job growth across lots of different industry sectors and across a lot of the counties. 19 of our 23 counties saw some job growth.”

According to the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Research and Planning Division, the sector that saw the most growth was in professional and business services, which includes jobs from engineering and accounting, to janitorial and landscaping work. There was also growth in local government, healthcare, and the oil and gas industries. As the amount of job opportunities increases, unemployment has been on the decline. Wyoming’s unemployment rate is at 2.9 percent, while the national average sits at 3.8 percent. As the economy continues to bounce back from the pandemic, the amount of jobs will continue to grow.

Bullard says, “The US economy continues to grow in spite of higher interest rates and the tight labor market we see nationally and here. Unemployment is low. Lots of people are working, earning, and spending.”
