Update on LCCC gym construction
Estimated completion time was given to Wyoming News Now Sports
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - For over a year now the arena at Laramie County Community College has been under construction, with some delays questions have been raised about when it will be completed.
Wyoming News Now Sports went to LCCC to try to clear the air.
While no exact date was given, a confident “Early Spring” estimation was provided by LCCC Athletic Director, Mark Puev.
A generation of arena sports athletes at LCCC will have come and gone by the end of this year without having a true “home court”, the opening of the renovated on campus arena is highly anticipated.
“We’re looking at ways to commemorate them and make sure they know we appreciate everything that they did,” Puev said about the athletes who have played only at the Storey Gym.
“It’s not just going to be big for those round ball programs, it will be big for all athletics that we will have. In arguably, what I would say, one of the best indoor facilities in region nine,” Puev said.
Some of those state of the arts features will include an over one thousand square feet champions lounge, a 10x18 foot video board, and several scoreboards around the arena.
“One of the things that was kind of big on our checklist was to separate our venue from a high school venue. We’re going to have the seats that are going to be on both sides, they are going to have arm rests, seat backs, and cupholders. Which, you think to yourself ‘So what?’ until you go sit in a gym for six hours on a high school bench. You realize, probably the older you get, your back is going to tell you that it doesn’t want to be there. Where as this level of comfort will help out,” Puev said.
Wyoming News Now Sports will be sure to be at the ribbon cutting once the renovations have concluded and hopefully bring you all at home a tour! Stay tuned!
