CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The T-Birds football team will head into the playoffs as the #2 seed following an 8-1 regular season, and they put an exclamation point on it with a 69-8 win over Kelly Walsh last Friday.

Senior Drew Jackson was virtually unstoppable against the Trojans. Just a week after he scored four times in East’s Week 7 win over South, Jackson provided an encore with another four trips to the end zone in their regular season finale.

”I think a lot that helped was [Kelly Walsh] was allowing us to run our best run plays. The defense that they ran, they were letting us run our best run plays. So I think the linemen were comfortable running those plays, and I was just making one simple cut and I was into the open. So that was just good,” Jackson said.

Jackson’s first score was a goal line punch in to put East up 14-0 in the first quarter, and in the second he rushed for another one to make it 28-8. His final two TD’s on the night came in the third quarter; one on a long catch and run and the other on a nine yard scamper to extend the T-Birds’ already sizable lead.

Jackson’s showing on Friday broke a tie at the top for the most rushing touchdowns in 4A this season, and he is now the sole leader in that category with 18.

The only blemish on East’s record was a Week 5 defeat against Sheridan, but they have not missed a beat getting back on track as they head into the playoffs. Jackson said he feels that loss has led to a greater emphasis on the ground game in the final weeks of the regular season.

”That game was definitely a big motivator for us, especially in the rushing game. Because I think since then-- I mean, against KW we were close to I think 300 yards rushing. Then the game before, we were-- all these games have been a lot better since the Sheridan game, and I think that’s been really something that we’ve worked on,” Jackson said.

Jackson and East have their first playoff matchup set for Friday night when they host Rock Springs at 6 p.m.
