World #1 Pickleball player visits Wyoming
LARAMIE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - When was the last time a world number one athlete in a sport visited Wyoming? believe it or not, it was this weekend.
Enter Ben Johns, he is the best pickle ball player in the world and he was at the UW Tennis Complex this week.
Johns spent the week playing in a local tournament and then holding a meet and greet with local pickleball enthusiasts, helping to grow a sports that has been taking the nation by storm.
“I think it’s cool because the locals are very appreciative of an event like this because they don’t get an opportunity to do an event like that regularly,” Johns said. “This is a big event for them and I’m happy to bring some happiness to their event. It seems like everyone is having a good time and I’m happy about that. \
This was also Johns first time ever being in Wyoming.
“I like the downtown when I was there, it was a cute little place. Downtown was cute, the tournament’s been good, a little hike and that will give me a general impression of Laramie,” Johns said.
Johns’ next major tournament is next week in Las Vegas for the Professional Pickleball Association Championships. He will compete once again for best in the world in three different division; Singles, Mixed Doubles, and Doubles, all in which he is ranked #1 currently.
