East edges Central in a war, Laramie rolls against South during Tuesday night volleyball

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Cheyenne took center stage for Wyoming high school volleyball on Tuesday night.

Central and East met for the first time this season at Central Fieldhouse, and it produced a classic rivalry battle. The Lady T-Birds started strong with a 25-10 win in the first set, but the Lady Indians woke up in a hurry. The second set was neck and neck the whole way, but Central dug deep to take it 26-24 and tie up the match. East had an answer with a 25-17 third set, but the roller coaster continued when Central punched back to take the fourth 25-20. The Lady T-Birds found a groove at the most timely moment, as they exploded for a 15-1 fifth set to take the match. Stat leaders for the victors included Bradie Schlabs (6 aces, 26 assists), Janie Merritt (19 kills), Jade Brown (5 blocks) and Gabby Alvarado (16 digs).

Across town, the top team in the state was aiming to continue their dominance; #1 Laramie made the trip to face an upset-minded South team. The Lady Plainsmen came out guns blazing in the first set; the Lady Bison went on a run when they were down to their final point, but the deficit was too big to overcome as Laramie took it 25-13. South found some slight momentum early in the second frame, but then the visitors swiftly shut them down-- winning 25 of the final 29 points. The third set was more of the same from the state’s juggernaut, as they handily won 25-13 to extend their undefeated record to 21-0. Four Lady Plainsmen posted five kills to pace the team (Maddy Stucky, Michon Sailors, Savanna Steiert, Ava Plassmeyer), with Stucky leading in assists (10), Anna Sell in digs (4), and Tessa Dodd in aces (3).
