CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Wednesday night marked the first conference match for both East and South when they squared off in the Lady Bison’s house. South entered the contest with a 2-14 record, while the Lady T-Birds checked in at 11-5.

East came out of the gate winning the first five points of the opening set, and set the tone for the rest of the match. South managed to hang around early on in the first set, but the Lady T-Birds ended up closing on an 11-2 run to take the lead.

The visitors’ momentum skyrocketed in the following frame; a sound 25-6 showing for East put them up 2-0, but in the third the Lady Bison punched back. South fought tooth and nail, but ultimately East put them away 25-19 to win the match and get their conference schedule started off on the right foot.

It was a big night for Bradie Schlabs, as she posted a team-high 10 aces and 14 assists; other leaders for East included Janie Merritt with 8 kills, Gabby Alvarado’s 7 digs, and Jade Brown picking up 7 blocks.

Both teams are in action again on Thursday. East has a tall order ahead of them as the top ranked Lady Plainsmen come to the Thunderdome, while South makes the short trip across town for another rivalry matchup against Central.
